Shantaram

In the text “Reading Literature” on page 344, you learned that a literary text will let you “experience life in someone else’s shoes”. The novel excerpt from Shantaram by Australian Gregory David Roberts (p. 265) is loosely based on his own experiences. The narrator, Lin, has escaped from prison in Australia. He arrives in India, a place he never intended to visit, let alone fall in love with.
